Ways to Post
a Resume

Introduction:

The Internet provides an inexpensive way to advertise job opportunities and personal resumes across the globe, or if you wish to be more specific: for a certain country, region, or location. The WWW has proven itself to be a vital tool from both the employers and job applicants perspective, as job qualifications and employment interests can be more accurately matched. Large companies, professional associations, and general job search sites are investing more time and energy in developing the Internet as a recruiting tool.

Job Seekers who conduct searches on the Net will find find advice on how to brush up on the skills that are so important in writing the initial resume and advice andtechniques that can enhance the user’s interview skills.

Some compelling reasons for conducting a job search over the Internet:

  1. The ability to search and find potential employers on the Internet indicates to the employer that the applicant has the knowledge needed to navigate the medium.

  2. Both the applicant and employer save time and money by posting resumes/job opportunities to the Internet.

  3. The Internet’s nature has no boundaries, your resume will be available to a much wider employment market.

  4. Conducting a active job search online can give you the edge, as you can be one of the first applicants to respond to a posted job opportunity.

Ways of Posting A Resume:

HTML Documents:

There are over 300,000 indexed resumes on AltaVista that have been written as plain HTML documents. Writing an indexed document allows Company Headhunters to very quickly search for potential candidates who possess the particular credentials and skills they are searching for. (Most Internet Service Providers allow their users Free Web Space.)

If your Internet Service Provides doesn't allow you to free Web space to post your resume there are a few places that will store your Web pages for free.

Examples:

  1. Geocities

  2. Cybertown

Job-Related Web-sites:
There are presently over 3,500 job-related Web sites, and the number is continually growing. The information is stored in databases, which makes it necessary for the job seeker to become familiar with the particular procedures and query language of each site used to perform searches.

Right at this moment, the majority of employment opportunities offered on the Internet are technical, although through your searches you will be able to find employment in entry level positions and apprenticeship positions -- as usual, there are no guarantees that the employment opportunities today will meet your particular needs –Have faith, keep checking regularly!!

One very interesting site that I have found on the Internet that offers various types and levels of employment opportunities, also offers everything from soup to nuts in career planning, information on particular positions, where will the jobs be in 2005,etc. This site appears to be American, but I am sure that similar Canadian sites are out there: The Mining Company

I, personally, have found the Internet to be a wonder resource when looking at professions that I find of personal interest, the educational requirements needed, the type of work that a company handles, and many employers will even inform the job-seeker of many types of "cons" that a position may hold. Employment boards on the Web offer the possibility of world-wide employment, although the job-seeker can, in mostcases, remain within their regional area if they so choose. Hope you enjoy the page and have some fun while searching out your area of interest!!
