Chirda lay in her bed listening to the sounds in the big room. She could hear the soft voices of her mother and father. Chirda pulled back the curtain on the small round window by her bed and looked out. The sun's rays were streaming through the branches of the tall giants and casting a soft light in the village of the Heito clan, nectar brewers of the Whari. She watched the few people outside moving slowly around the village common, the long period of inactivity evident in their stiff movements. She let the curtain drop back over the window and lay back down.
