Whari: a very small mammalian species that lives in the forests of southern Vancouver Island. They hibernate during the fall and winter months, waking in time to harvest the nectar from the wildflowers that grow in the meadows two days trek from the Whari homeland.
In ancient times the Whari population was much greater than it is now. There are ancient ritual sites that can be found on the landscape. They are a visual reminder of this once great species that is now almost extinct.
