Known by many as Simon Paul Mitchell Fudge, he likes to be further known as DJ POLAR, hip hop disc jockey extraordinaire!!!! The mission of this webpage is to better explain and show what is important to Mr. S. Fudge in his daily life.
Born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan of English parentage, Simon had curiosity all his own. As a kid, he liked sports and hip hop music. Despite being an Anglican, he attended St. Pius X Catholic Elementary before moving on to Luther College High School, where he graduated in 1993. Though he went to religious schools, Simon was not religious at all. The next fall, he attended Malaspina University-College in Nanaimo for one unsuccessful year before returning home to Regina. Over the next three years, Simon transferred to the University of Regina, made a trip to the United Kingdom and worked in a variety of jobs. Following the passing of his mother Jennifer in January 1997, Simon returned to Malaspina to complete his double-minor degree in History and Creative Writing as well as completing a diploma in Physical Education. Simon is now 24 years old, single (and very available), and has high hopes of becoming a soccer journalist in the future.
What motivates Simon Fudge does not tend to motivate other Canadians. Simon has incredible passion for soccer, a sport he first started playing at the age of 14. Simon will go to any lengths to find soccer-related information. He uses the internet extensively, along with newspapers and shortwave radio. Simon not only plays, listens to, and reads about the game, but he coaches as an apprentice with the Upper Vancouver Island Development Centre for Soccer. With UVIDCS, he helps young players become technically better by showing advanced skills to improve their play. Simon has great passion for England's Bristol City Football Club. His father played for its youth team in the late 1950's, so Simon's choice of team comes out of tradition. He enjoys Vancouver Island because of the fact that the mild weather allows outdoor soccer year-round. "That's how it should be," says Mr. Fudge. "I became tired of indoor, 6-a-side soccer in the winter. I wanted to try a UK-type soccer season, and that can be done here." But Simon's passion for soccer has grown to reflect its imporatnce to the rest of the world. "Other than music or international relations, it is the only thing that every country on this planet seems to do the same," he says. "To me, that is fascinating because anywhere you go, you might meet someone with the same interest in soccer as you. It has allowed me to meet many different people from all corners of the globe." Simon's goals are to stay involved in the game of soccer in some capacity in the future.
Simon does have other interests in politics and current affairs, history, and music. "My musical taste goes from old-school hip hop to 70's, 80's hard rock. I like loud sounds and fast tempo. Keeps me on the go." Simon is known to have a serious but kind personality. "I might have a serious personality, but I like to help others," he says. "My favorite movies and TV shows are comedies. You have to poke fun at some things, sometimes."
Simon has one sibling, his sister, Marion. Marion has been in London, England since September 1998. "I envy her, she's where I really would like to be right now," says Simon. His father, Paul Fudge, is set to retire at the end of March 1999. "He's 55 now and looking forward to it. He should be here in Nanaimo in the near future." So, despite his clear passions for soccer, Simon has a broader scope than one might first think. His family has helped him to become the person he is today.
The eminent Simon P.M. Fudge comes across as irreverant and unique. But even he will point out that all people are unique as well, if you look closely enough. He may not be the typical Canadian male, but he brings his own eccentricities together with heavy English influences. If you ever run across the great DJ POLAR, you will always be surprised with what he has to say.
