My Secret Place.

Run, by Miranda Johnsen, 1997When I think about writing an artist's manifesto, I think of this painting. It reminds me in so many symbolic ways of the feeling of being creative--that solitude with so many brilliant colours and textures. It is a place I selfishly go to by myself, to get away from everthing and everyone. It allows me to become completely at one with myself (not to sound hokey, but it is true.)

In this painting I did, I am running down a trail at the oceanside. I feel the wind on my face, the sandy dirt beneath my feet, and the cool light cotton I hold in my hands. The sea air is fresh, and the colours before me are brilliant and soothing. In my mind, I hear the beginning to Pink Floyd's "Obscured by Clouds". Each step I take forward, and each beat of my heart going to the beat of the song as though I were running in slow motion....Running, running to my secret place.
