Comprehensive Lists
- NetCOMplete's On-Line Manual: An excellent site for gaining an orientation to a wide variety of on-line computing applications.
- HTML Writers Guild: The first international organization of WWW page authors and Internet publishing professionals. Guild members have access to such resources as HTML and Web business mailing lists, information lists, and interaction with their peers.
- Technology of Writing: Alan Lui, at the University of California, Santa Barbara, has created an incredible humanities resource with his Voice of the Shuttle Project. The Technology of Writing site is specifically devoted to links having a bearing on computer-mediated communication.
- The December CMC List: Directory of sources for online communication and the Internet. A popular resource for Internet trainers and students to learn about the
Internet, it is updated continuously.
- EARN Guide: An introduction to the resource tools on the Internet: Gopher and World-Wide Web. WAIS (Wide Area Information Servers), Archie, Hytelnet, WHOIS, X.500, Netfind. TRICKLE and BITFTP. LISTSERV and Usenet (Netnews).
- MEGASOURCES: This is a monster list compiled by Dean Tudor, a professor in the School of Journalism at Ryerson Polytechnic University in Toronto. A great resource for journalists looking for information, with many Canadian links.
History of the Internet
- Internet History: Bruce Sterling's "A Short History of the Internet" (1993); and " A Brief History of the Internet and Related Networks" by the InterNIC Society.
- InterNIC Information and Education Services: The official and comprehensive site for information on the history and operation of the Internet, including some excellent 15 minute tutorials on Internet topics.
Humanities and Technology
- Hypertext: The Convergence of Contemporary Critical Theory and Technology: The first chapter of George Landow's 1992 landmark text, and a good place to start any exploration of the technologizing of the humanities.
- Institute for Advanced Technology in the Humanities: IATH is based at the University of Virginia and focuses on information technology for humanities research.
- CETH : The Center for Electronic Texts in the Humanities was establish jointly by Rutgers and Princeton Universities in 1991 to "advance scholarship in the humanities through the use of high-quality electronic texts." This link will take you CETH's brief introduction to humanities computing and the evolution of the electronic text.
- Humanist Discussion Group: An international electronic seminar on the application of computers to the humanities edited by Willard McCarty and Christopher Fox.

- Postmodern Culture: One of the oldest peer-reviewed on-line journals, published by the Institute for Advanced Technology in the Humanities.
