NASH METROPOLITANS1962 Nash Metropolitan Convertible![]() Introduction to the "Met"The Nash Metropolitan was the first British-built small car of American design for the American and Canadian markets. The Met was first introduced in 1953, but came into full production in 1954. The Metropolitan was basically a car of the fifties because the last cars were produced in 1960, although some were still being sold up until 1962. The American and Canadian Markets were not ready for an economy car: they were used to big cars, with big engines, and big comfort. the Metropolitan was second only to the Volkswagon Beetle in small car imports to North America. One reason for the Beetle's greater popularity could be that it could seat four while the Metropolitan could only seat two. One might say that the Metropolitan was ahead of its time.
