Canadian Community Students
Application
to Malaspina University-College
English-as-a-Second Language Department
You can apply as a Canadian Community Student if you
are a:
- Landed Immigrant
- Canadian citizen
Step 1
- Phone the ESL Department (250) 740-6318 to set up an appointment
for your ESL Assessment.
- Complete your ESL Assessment.
Step 2
Receive your Permission to Register Form from the ESL
Department.
Step 3
1. Pay your own fees - Take your Permission To
Register Form to the Student Services Building 200 and pay
at the Registration desk.

2. Apply for Funding
If you are applying for funding it is important to start the
application procedure as early as possible. It can take up to
6 weeks to get approval for funding.
The different types of funding you can apply for are:
1. Adult Basic Education Assistance Program (ABESAP)
2. Workers Compensation Board (WCB) - You can be
funded by WCB if you have a claim and are approved by them. You
will need to see your case worker.
3. Training Assistance Benefit (TAB) - This is
assistance from the Ministry of Social Development and Economic
Security. You can be funded by TAB if you are receiving Social
Assistance benefits. You will need to see your training consultant.
4. Employment Insurance (EI) - You can be funded by Employment
Insurance if you are receiving benefits from them and you are
approved. You will need to see your case worker.
To apply for funding you need to fill out an application form
stating your financial resources.
