Pysanky

For over 2000 years, decorated eggs called Pysanky have been a tradition of Ukrainian folk art. Eggs were important in the spring rituals of the people, who had been waiting for the renewal of life after the barren cold of winter. The sun was an important design in early pysanky, as the warmth it provided to the earth was welcomed by the people.
