The
Sullivan Commission report noted that, "it is to elected and
appointed officials, and to the
organizations and youngsters they serve,
that falls the heavy burden of
leadership in establishing a provincial forum for discussion and action".
Sullivan '99 is one such forum to review the legacy of the Sullivan commission
report and place it in the context of preparing students for the 21st century.
Of
the many issues covered in the report, Sullivan '99 focuses on those affecting
the secondary school level, specifically in the areas of relevance of education
and the use of contextual learning. The themes
and track headings below define
the structure of the Forum. The words
used here are all drawn from the
original Royal Commission report, and serve to remind us of the vision
that it portrayed in 1988, and to consider its relevance for the future.
